Whereas, Portland, Oregon has been home to the global organization of the Luis Palau Association for
more than three decades; and
Whereas, Portland was the birthplace of the first CityFest festival at Governor Tom McCall Waterfront
Park, now a model for free, family friendly celebrations around the world; and
Whereas, Portland has been a leader among American cities for its partnerships with the faith community
through projects such as Community Care Day for schools; and
Whereas, Portland will join with neighboring cities and the faith community in 2008 for a Season of
Service that will actively address the needs of the homeless, the medically uninsured, the hungry, the impoverished, our environment and our public schools; and
Whereas, the Season of Service is intended to love, serve, and ultimately celebrate at Portland CityFest
2008 with the Luis Palau Association in August at Governor Tom McCall Waterfront Park;
Now, therefore, I, Tom Potter, Mayor of the City of Portland, the “City of Roses,” do hereby declare
2008 to be
The Season of Service
in Portland, and encourage all citizens to participate.
