Whereas, Portland, Oregon, known as the “City of Roses” and “City of Trees,” is one of

America’s most livable cities; and

Whereas, this community’s renowned livability and quality of life can be attributed, in part, to

its extraordinary collection of trees in its parks, along its streets, and on other public and private property; and

Whereas, this remarkable urban forest is the result of careful stewardship and a strong

commitment to the propagation and management of trees in Portland; and

Whereas, for the 31st year in a row, Portland, Oregon has been recognized for its high quality

arboricultural efforts, by the National Arbor Day Foundation, by being designated as a “Tree City, U.S.A.;” and

Whereas, Portland, Oregon traditionally celebrates its trees year-round with continual planting

and with special recognition on Arbor Day, April 7th 2008;

Now, therefore, I, Tom Potter, Mayor of the City of Portland, Oregon, the “City of Roses,

do hereby proclaim April 2008 to be

Arbor Month

in Portland, and encourage all residents to take special notice of Portland’s urban forest, and to plant and care for trees in honor of this rejuvenating occasion.
